California Mosquito Awareness Week!

2025 California Mosquito Awareness Week logo, all text without graphics.

April 13 through April 19 was California Mosquito Awareness Week. Even though Mosquito Week is over, that doesn't mean mosquito activity has stopped. The Mosquito & Vector Management District wants everyone in Santa Barbara County to be aware of mosquitoes as they start becoming more active and abundant from now through October. We also want everyone to be aware of the yellow fever mosquito, Aedes aegypti, which can transmit dangerous viruses such as Dengue, Zika, Chikungunya and the virus that causes yellow fever. Be sure to read the information here and elsewehere on our website about this dangerous mosquito. Fortunately, it's not here in our area - but it might show up anytime!
